In " How to Tame a Wild Tongue" Anzaldúa uses definition by discussing her experience with different languages. Anzaldúa shows how she explores her language more by knowing the different versions of it such as Chicano Spanish, Standard Spanish, Standard Mexican Spanish, and more. She explains how Chicano Spanish is different from the standard Spanish like how they use different vowels and words. By doing that she shows how "Spanish" seems like one language but there's many in it. Anzaldúa shows how the differences in a language can change the way one identifies themselves as. She explains "linguistic terrorism" to show the reader how important language is for one, and how others can view them different if they speak the same language but in different dialects. As well when she mentions how she had to take two different classes in order to get rid of her accent, because if she did not then others would view her differently even if she was speaking English right she wouldn't be "American" if she had an accent.

In "How to Tame a Wild Tongue," Gloria Anzaldúa strategically employs definitions to delve into her complex relationship with language and its impact on her identity. By sharing her personal encounters with linguistic diversity and discrimination, Anzaldúa utilizes definitions as a tool to dissect her experiences. She defines terms like "wild tongue" and "linguistic terrorism" to encapsulate the struggles faced by individuals who don't conform to the dominant language norms. These definitions not only articulate her emotions but also establish a relatable framework for readers to comprehend her perspective. Anzaldúa's use of definitions serves a dual purpose. Firstly, it allows her to assert agency over her linguistic heritage, thereby resisting cultural assimilation. She uses vivid descriptors to illustrate the vibrancy of her mother tongue, emphasizing its worthiness in a multicultural context. Secondly, these definitions enable her to critique societal power dynamics and linguistic hierarchies that marginalize non-standard languages. Through this, she invokes a sense of empathy and prompts readers to question their own role in perpetuating language-based biases. In summary, Anzaldúa's adept use of definitions in "How to Tame a Wild Tongue" empowers her narrative by articulating the intricacies of her language-related struggles, asserting her cultural identity, and challenging linguistic norms. Through this technique, she successfully engages readers in a dialogue about the broader implications of linguistic diversity and the importance of embracing one's language heritage.

in "how to tame a wild tongue" written by gloria anzaldua, Anzaldúa uses definition to show what she has gone through with language she portrays this idea by uses different languages in her story. she is proud of the different languages she speaks and she feels that they sort of make her who she is. she uses language to talk about things she has experienced before. Gloria speaks Spanish and English and compares things they have in common as well as lists some things they may be different in. Gloria may feel that because she speaks Spanish that she is "different" one thing that could lead to this is the way that she had to take class that made her speak with a more "american" dialect as well as being forced to take English classes. these actions come off as the schools portraying the idea that if you want to be "american" you have to speak English.

Anzaldúa uses definition to discuss her experience with language by showing her understanding of different types of languages. I think important parts of the essay that express this was when she was forced to get rid of her accent to be more "American", or when she shared experiences of being shamed for who she was.

In “How to Tame a Wild Tongue” by Gloria Anzaldúa, Anzaldúa uses definition to discuss her experience with language by explaining the differences in different types of languages and dialects. She explains how with these differences, she needs to change how she speaks based on the situation she is in and who she is speaking to. She talks about her experience having to think about the way she talks when talking to different people. This just emphasizes the fact that the differences in language and dialects can change what a person is saying, and change what the word means. She goes through the different languages she knows and then all of the different dialects in the languages, and explains the differences in each one, which helps the reader understand why she feels the need to switch dialects based on who she is around in order to avoid confusion.

Anzaldua uses definition to enunciate the importance her multicultural background. She holds language as a foundational part of her identity, and evaluates the impact of each one in her life. She goes into detail about the development of each of the languages-Chicano, Tex-Mex, Spanish, and English. She has the incredibly extensive knowledge about each one and weights each one differently in her life, she remains fairly neutral throughout describing them but by the end she states how she wished she could have the freedoms to speak what she wanted without judgement. We have a lot of preconceived opinions about language when we don’t know anything about the person, this is especially prevalent in the US as anzaldua states through her piece.

Anzaldua uses definition in "How to Tame a Wild Tongue' by diving deeper in the art of conversing. She explains how attitude, emotion and how her personal experiences all combine as she demonstrates the fluidity her language has adapted. The effect of this definition is reflecting that there is no set rules to follow in language, it is always changing when it comes to culture and overall society. Relating back to attitude and emotion, this is where accents come into play, as you learn Analdua's definition, this shows the effect of how accents represent the unique differences of each language.

The definitions that Anzaldua provides brings clarity to her readers, their knowledge of her languages and dialects are expanded, which allows her to drive home her message of the importance of language and voice. If she were to write about what each language meant to her, without defining it and the instances in which she uses each, then the emotional effect would be lost in the reader’s ignorance. Additionally, by showing the reader what each language means and giving its history, she is shining a light on dialects that aren’t normally considered or spoken about. The nuances of the many dialects she uses and what each means are made more clear by the definitions that she writes, which makes her more emotional and personal anecdotes that much deeper.
