In "I Just Wanna Be Average" by Mike Rose, Rose talks about different types of teachers. The first type of teacher Rose talks about is the Physical Education teacher which he was not named. The teacher seems overall very abusive and not caring about his students. The next teacher Rose talks about in the essay is his Sophmore English teacher, Mr. Mitropetros. Mr Mitropetros did not seem too prepared as a teacher based on the text, he seems like he just dove straight into the lesson plan without really teaching it. After Mr. Mitropetros, there was Mr. Montez who was Rose’s Spanish teacher. Mr. Montez is described as a tenuous teacher who is prepared for a rowdy class which makes me interpret that he is a laid-back teacher but strict when things get out of hand. The teacher following Mr. Montez was Mr. Gross, based on how he is described in the text, he is one of the few teachers who actually care about teaching a subject, let alone doing it the “right way” for students to learn. The final teacher introduced was Mr. MacFarland, he was a teacher who seem to be interested in the subject they are teaching and are passionate about it rather than just doing it for a job he seems like the type to do it because he enjoys it.

The first teacher Rose talks about is his gym teacher. The gym teacher was said as "pretty harsh", then being told how he had beat kids with a paddle. Then Mr. Mitropetros. It was non verbally said that he never planned his lessons and made them reread Julius Caesar over and over again over 20 weeks. Next would be Mr. Montez. Who was to have a rowdy class but was always prepared for it. Then finally, there is Mr. Macfarland. It was put as Mr. Macfarland caring a lot about his job while also doing it right and in a fun way.

Rose talks about multiple different teachers that all affected him whether it was good or bad. The first teacher he talks about is his P.E. teacher who was pretty harsh and also abused students. The next teacher Rose talks about is his sophomore English teacher Mr. Mitropetros. Mr. Mitropetros was inexperienced in the field of teaching so his class was pretty pointless (unnecessary) to Rose. Then a new teacher came along named Mr. Montez who taught Spanish. He was a teacher who couldn’t control his class when they became too rowdy. Finally, there was Mr. Macfarland. He was a teacher who cared for his students and was passionate about his job. Mr. Macfarland inspired Rose the most, he never gave up on Rose and he helped him get into college. Throughout my educational journey, I have encountered many different types of teachers who have impacted my own life. I’ve had some teachers that don’t teach to my liking which caused me to have trouble staying engaged in the class but I have also had some teachers who were very nice and always tried to help me succeed just like how Mr. Macfarland helped Rose in his educational path. I am also fortunate to have never experienced an abusive teacher like Rose did in gym class.

In the essay ¨I Just Wanna be Average¨ by Mike Rose, Rose has many different teachers that are both described as significantly good and significantly bad teachers. The first teacher we were introduced to in the essay is the gym teacher. His name was not mentioned but we know that he was not a very good teacher, he was very mean and abused his students with a paddle. The next teacher was Mr. Mitropertros, he taught 10th grade English, which was pointless to Rose, then there was Mr. Montez who taught Spanish and did not know how to control his students. The last teacher we were told about was Mr. Macfarland, who was the most inspiring teacher for Rose. He pushed Rose to his greatest self well being a caring teacher who had fun classes. Mr. Macfarland took it into his own hands to encourage Rose in school and help him get into a good college.

In the essay “I Just Wanna Be Average” we are introduced to a kid named Mike Rose, Rose talks about his peers and his teachers, specifically the good and bad types of teachers. The first teacher introduced is Brother Dill, a “troubled and unstable man” who taught English. He is said to be very vocal, when his class tends to dissociate from his teaching, he would raise his voice to bring back the attention. And on “occasion would lose control and shake and smack the students”.The second teacher he introduces is his gym teacher which he describes to be “pretty harsh” and seems to be an abusive teacher with little to no care for his students. The third teacher introduced is his sophomore English teacher named Mr. Mitropetros. “He was a large and bejeweled man”, who often bragged and managed a parking lot. And then Rose introduces Mr. Montez a tiny and soft-spoken man, Mr. Montez was a calm and collected teacher with no signs of violence and ready for rowdy classes. Mr. Gross was the fourth teacher introduced, he was one of the teachers who actually seemed to care about teaching kids the correct way and was passionate about his work. Mr. MacFarland is a teacher who seems passionate about his subject and seems to enjoy his job.

Teachers can positively play a rather humongous part in students’ lives. However, this is not a job requirement, so can is an intentional and necessary verb in that sentence. That verb is interchangeable with plenty of other words, and each teacher must choose which one they will apply to their students. All of those words that define how a teacher decides to mold their students all fall under these umbrella words: should, might, will, and won’t. I believe that these are the four categories in which teachers are defined in terms of the impact that they have on their students, and I believe that even more after reading I Just Wanna Be Average. Brother Dill is a won’t. He’s the first teacher Rose mentions, and he shapes the beginning of the essay because he mirrors Rose’s educational career, as it’s been very aggressive and unstable. The next teacher mentioned is Mr. Mitropetos, who was unqualified and therefore underperforming regarding what the students were learning. We learn about Mr. Montez, a teacher who cared but was inexperienced, resulting in his resignation. Brother Clint was the first teacher that cared as he moved Rose to the college prep track after noticing him excelling in Biology. Mr. MacFarland was the only teacher Rose mentioned that would be classified under the will category as he ensured his students learned meaningful techniques and strategies that would help them in the real world rather than forcing memorization of various content.

In education, there are many types of teachers all who have their own various methods of teaching and effectiveness at reaching and helping students. The first teacher that Rose talks about was Brother Dill who supervised his homeroom. He had no experience teaching and was aggressive, unstable, and troubled therefore was no help to the students at all. Roses PE teacher (unnamed) was described as a stubby ex-lineman whose method was violence in order to make the kids “men.” Next Rose talks about Mr. Mitropetros, his sophomore English teacher who had little training and often left the kids to read and reread Julius Caesar on their own. Mr. Montez, the Spanish teacher, was a small, soft-spoken man who was not prepared for the rowdiness of the class. His authority, although beginning small, was ripped to shreds after a fight between two students in class. Rose then talks about Mr. Gross as an exceptional teacher who helped students learn, develop hypotheses, troubleshoot, reason through problems, and communicate effectively. He talks about how these are the things that teachers really should be doing and make them effective. Finally, Rose talks about Mr. MacFarland, a man who most people misjudged at first but then became a well-respected teacher. He helped Rose begin to read again and gave him a sense of public redefinition from his years of being simply mediocre.

I really liked the way you answered the question. I liked the fact that you categorized each teacher based on verbs. Throughout “I Just Want to Be Average” by Mike Rose he mentions five teachers. The first mentioned is Rose’s homeroom teacher. His homeroom teacher is described as “a troubled and unstable man” (296) who resorts to harsh forms of discipline, shaking or smacking the kids. The second teacher mentioned is the author’s Sophomore English teacher, Mr. Mitropetros. Mr. Mitropetros relied on having his students read Julias Cesar repeatedly throughout the semester, because he didn’t have a lesson plan that preceded the novel. Rose then mentions Mr. Montez, a Spanish-1 teacher who cared for his students but didn't have the skills to teach them, resulting in a “rowdy class” (297). He also writes about Brother Clint who was intimidating because he frequently prescribed extensive work, which is something many of the vocational education students weren’t used to. Brother Clint, after realizing Rose was getting A’s in vocational school, moved him to a College Prep Program. The last teacher, Mr. MacFarland, was the teacher who influenced Rose the most. Macfarland truly cared for and challenged students. He helped Rose develop skills in literature, and assisted him in his college acceptance Rose mentions all of these teachers in order to develop a narrative surrounding this idea: Teachers who love teaching, teach kids who love learning. The significance of each teacher is to demonstrate how different teaching styles helped Rose in his educational journey. He didn't do so well in vocational education because he wasn't pushed to do well, when he was moved to college prep he was faced with more challenging work, but also teachers who were willing to help their students in a more productive manner.

Brother Clint was the teacher that Rose was getting good grades in his vocational education and he helped Rose get into his college prep class. The last teacher he mentions is Mr. MacFarland. He really cared about students' education and even helped Rose with literature and preparing for college. Throughout this essay, we see how the different teacher has taught Rose something. Also how a teacher being passionate about their job really makes a big difference within their teaching styles.

In the essay "I Just Wanna Be Average" Mike Rose describes the different types of teachers he encountered. The first person he mentioned was his homeroom teacher, Brother Dill. Rose describes him as "troubled" and "unstable" who would smack or shake students. The second teacher that Rose describes was his physical education teacher, who he didn't name. The teacher would routinely hit the students with paddles to "toughen them". The third teacher that was mentioned was Rose's sophomore English teacher named Mr. Mitropetros. Rose called him a "large, bejeweled man" who had a second job managing an auditorium parking lot. Mr. Mitropetros had little to no training in English, so his students would read the required text repeatedly throughout the semester. The fourth teacher was Mr. Montez, the Spanish I teacher, who was a very shy teacher, but was able to put the students in their place when they were rowdy. The last teacher, who Rose said had the biggest impact on his educational experience, was Mr. MacFarland. He cared deeply about the quality of the student's education and helped prepare Rose for college.

Rose reflects on his educational journey and the impact of various teachers in his life. He shares his experiences with teachers who had contrasting teaching styles and effectiveness. Brother Dill, his homeroom supervisor, lacked experience and was aggressive, making no positive impact on the students. The PE teacher's violent approach to toughen the kids seemed unproductive. Mr. Mitropetros, his sophomore English teacher, was inexperienced, leaving the students to repeatedly read Julius Caesar without meaningful guidance. Then he mentions Mr. Montez, the Spanish teacher, struggled to control a rowdy class, and his authority diminished after a fight erupted. On the other hand, Mr. Gross was an exceptional teacher who effectively nurtured critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. Mr. MacFarland stood out to rose as a caring and passionate educator, inspiring Rose by never giving up on him and helping him succeed.

In the passage "I Just Wanna be Average" by Mike Rose, Rose mentions how at school there are good and bad types of students and teachers. The first teacher that is mentioned in the passage is a P.E. Teacher who is known for being cruel and abusive. The second teacher Rose mentions is his sophomore English teacher Mr. Mitropetros who is described as pointless to rose and uninformed on the subject. Another teacher mentioned in the passage is Mr. Montez who couldn't keep a hold on his classroom, leading it to become unruly and rowdy. The final teacher mentioned is Mr. Macfarland who is the teacher that had the most influence on Rose. Mr. Macfarland never gave up on Rose and pushed Rose to be their better self which leads to Rose getting into college. Mr. Macfarland is a teacher that really puts time and effort into his teaching, this shown through the impact he had on Rose and their Schooling journey.

In the story “I just want to be average”, Rose talks about numerous teachers and how their teachings shaped him. The first one that Rose mentions is his unnamed gym teacher. He is described as harsh and generally uninterested in the well-being and education of his students. The second teacher that is mentioned is Mr. Mitropetros who was clearly not qualified to teach English. He made the class repeatedly read the same text in different roles and was one of the teachers that caused Rose to lose interest in learning. Mr. Montez was the next teacher Rose had. He was unprepared for a class that required discipline to produce results and therefore was unable to teach well. Brother Clint was the first teacher that Rose had that cared and attempted to teach the class. He brought back some of the interest in school that he had slowly lost and was the only teacher that noticed the administrative mistake because he was the first to recognize his academic success and potential. The last teacher, Mr. MacFarland changed Rose’s life by truly trying to push his students to ask questions and think beyond the required assignments. He even took the time outside of class to continue furthering their education and changed Rose’s perception of school. Mr. MacFarland was the only teacher to help Rose truly achieve his potential in school and was dedicated to his students further shown by taking time to get Rose into college.

In "I just wanna be average", Rose explains his educational journey and what his teachers were like. His first teacher that is mentioned is Brother Dill. Brother Dill was abusive towards Rose and his fellow classmates. The next teacher that is mentioned is his gym teacher, his name was not mentioned but he was also abusive. His reasoning was to make "make men" of the students, he also made fun of Rose's name. Next, English was taught by Mr. Mitropetros. He liked to gloat about the famous people he had met, and wasn't very smart so Rose didn't learn much from him. Mr. Montez taught the Spanish 1 class, he had a hard time controlling the rowdy class. Then there was Mr. Gross, who was a good teacher and taught skills to kids that they would actually use in real life. Where as Brother Slattery wanted to be a good teacher with a strict routine, but he didn't engage the students like lots of the other teachers. Then there was Brother Clint, he was a good teacher that was able to run a tight ship of a classroom. Brother Clint was the teacher that realized Rose should be in higher level classes, and got Rose into the College Prep class. Then there was, Mr. MacFarland who taught Rose english. Mr. MacFarland seemed to be sort of a joke, but he turned out to be an intense teacher that inspired and engaged Rose. He was a role model to Rose and made him feel special by using his mind.
